In mijn studie naar Chopin heb ik zijn biografie in me opgenomen. Deze geniale componist uit 1810 die niet ouder werd dan 39 jaar, bleek nogal mensenschuw te zijn en trok zich graag terug in zichzelf, in zijn hemelse muziek. Dit wilde ik graag verbeelden in het portret. Wat zijn gelaatstrekken betreft, bestaan er slechts één werkelijke foto van hem én een dodenmasker. Deze afbeeldingen hebben mij geholpen om de puzzel van zijn portret vorm te geven. Tijdens het boetseerproces heb ik enkel zijn muziek beluisterd, wat hopelijk terug te zien is in dit portret.

Frédéric Chopin
In my study of Chopin, I absorbed his biography. This genius composer from 1810, who lived no more than 39 years, turned out to be quite shy of people and liked to withdraw into himself and his heavenly music. I wanted to depict this in the portrait. As for his features, there are only two actual photographs of him and a death mask. These images helped me shape the puzzle of his portrait. During the modeling process I only listened to his music, which hopefully can be seen in this portrait.
