Tijdens mijn studie naar Chopin heb ik me verdiept in zijn biografie. Deze geniale componist, geboren in 1810 en slechts 39 jaar oud geworden, was bekend om zijn teruggetrokken en mensenschuwe karakter. Hij vond zijn toevlucht in zijn hemelse muziek. Dit aspect wilde ik in zijn portret tot uitdrukking brengen.
Wat zijn gelaatstrekken betreft, bestaat er slechts één echte foto van hem en een dodenmasker. Deze afbeeldingen hielpen me de puzzel van zijn gezicht samen te stellen. Tijdens het boetseren heb ik uitsluitend zijn muziek beluisterd, in de hoop dat zijn klanken hun weg hebben gevonden in dit portret.

During my studies on Chopin, I immersed myself in his biography. This brilliant composer, born in 1810 and only 39 years old, was known for his withdrawn and shy nature. He found refuge in his heavenly music. I wanted to express this aspect in his portrait.
As for his facial features, there is only one real photo of him and a death mask. These images helped me put together the puzzle of his face. During the sculpting, I listened exclusively to his music, hoping that his sounds found their way into this portrait.
